From May 9th-11th, a Tourism Meeting took place in Persina Nature Park (Belene, Bulgaria).
The first day was again, just as in Duna-Ipoly National Park in April, dedicated to the development of the joint tourism strategy. This time the focus was on the more concrete part, the Action Plan. Many project ideas were gathered, which will then be worked on during the development of follow-up projects!
A public version of the strategy and action plan will be printed, together with an overview on the touristic offers of the protected areas of the DANUBEPARKS Network, in autumn this year.
The second and third day of the Tourism Meeting were dedicated to experience exchange on setting up boat tours and ornithological tours, as well as feedback on guiding and interpretation skills. On May 10th we tried a kayak tour with the boats bought within the project, and on May 11th we went to the Persin Island to see the Pelican colony – where also a bird watching tower will be built for visitors within another project.
Many ideas and suggestions were gathered by the group during the excursions and within a feedback session afterwards - on the offers of Persina Nature Park itself as well as on sustainable tourism development of the region in general.
The group concluded, that already now the region is definitely worth a visit, with the tours leading into incredibly interesting and beautiful natural areas.
